Grow More Rape
Rape, rape, rape and more rape—that should be an important part of the crop program on Iowa farms that carry livestock, particularly swine, sheep and calves.
Wheat and Rye Production in Iowa
General conditions seem to justify a more extensive production of wheat and rye on Iowa farms, both crops being reasonably well adapted to Iowa soil and climate. The most accurate figures available Indicate that there Is a world shortage of food stuffs which Ia bound to make a strong demand for cereals during the next few years. Prices for grains, and especially those used primarily for breads, will undoubtedly maintain a high level. Under such circumstances profitable returns are assured to the farmers who produce grain crops.
Hay and Pasture Seedings
Forage crops need much more attention In Iowa than they have been receiving. Larger acreages of hay and pasture can be grown to advantage thruout the state, but the best yields are necessary to make high priced land produce the largest returns. The most profitable systems of livestock management demand increased crops of grasses and legumes, and grain farming likewise requires that forage crops be grown to maintain the yielding power of the soil.
