Abstract
"I asked my mother for fifty cents
To see the elephant jump the fence."
We can remember singing this little ditty when we were children. And it wasn't only that we had to ask for that fifty cents, but we had to beg for every nickel or dime or penny. Allowance was a word associated with wealth in our childish minds.
