An eleven-year-old quarter horse gelding was examined for a lameness of several weeks' duration in the left foreleg. Four months previously an imbedded nail had been removed from the hoof. Examination revealed that the hoof was very sensitive to hoof testers at the toe area, but no sinus tract selling could be seen in the sole.
