Abstract

"The girl and the village" is a collection of connected short stories that explore the relationships between three generations of women in the same family. The collection focuses on the journey of a young girl faced with issues of abandonment and faith. The stories take place in the Northeastern coast of Brazil, and they also include issues of body image, abortion, work, religion, and death. The fictional characters are regular human beings who share a strong sense of family, and the overall effect is driven by the young girl's desire to be like each of her aunts and grandmother.
