Abstract

A method for determining the thermal diffusivities of brick shaped materials in a temperature range of 300-1000(DEGREES)C was developed. The present apparatus has measured thermal diffusivities in a range of 0.002-0.021 cm('2)/s with a precision better than 1% and an accuracy of 3-4%. This method utilizes Fourier analysis to determine the wavelength of a thermal wave inside a material, from which the thermal diffusivity is calculated. This method has proved to be comparable in accuracy to other methods such as the hot-wire method and the flash method.
