Abstract

The American dairy industry is climbing toward increased output per cow. During the past 30 years United States dairy farmers have boosted average yearly milk production per cow one-third - from 4,167 pounds in 1924 to 5,512 pounds in 1954. The past decade has seen an increase from 4,572 pounds in 1944 to the 5,512 pound level of 1954- a jump of over a fifth.
