| dc.description.abstract | <p>Iowa's Lincoln Highway is a case study of how a highway bypass impacted the small Iowa town of Jefferson in 1958. The study is based on numerous primary sources including local newspapers and published reports from the Iowa Department of Transportation. Throughout automobile transportation history, safety and convenience have always been at the forefront of road improvement. Paradoxically, these same principles that once created a thriving transportation economy in Jefferson also destroyed it.</p> | |
