Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop efficient synthesis to biologically interesting molecules. The three projects undertaken were the synthesis of natural antennas, the synthesis of soybean cyst nematode hatch inhibitors, and a study towards the total synthesis of glycinoclepin A;We have devised a synthetic pathway that completes the basic structure for an artificial light harvesting antenna. In addition this pathway can be used to synthesize a variety phthalocyanine dendrimers; We have also devised a synthetic route to potent analogs of glycinoclepin A. The analogs should prove useful in the prevention of soybean cyst nematode proliferation; Finally, we have developed a unique synthetic pathway to the core structure of glycinoclepin A. We have successfully completed two of the three rings present in glycinoclepin A and have designed intermediates which contain functional handles. These handles could eventually be used to complete the total synthesis of this biologically active molecule.
