This study is concerned with the socio-economic situation and the ecological problem presented by the coal mining industry in Iowa, with special reference to Monroe County. The aim will be to depict and to appraise these situations and problems as they relate themselves to this Iowa industry and both directly and indirectly to the welfare of the citizenry of the state.
