In arriving at decisions with respect to the role of government, it is not adequate to think only in terms of what government can or cannot do. We also should give due weight to effect of governmental programs on the relationships between the citizensand their government, and on the structure of organization of government. This aspect of public policy has received entirely too little attention in the formulation programs.
The charts below give us a picture of the condition of Iowa farm dwellings in 1940. They indicate our most serious rural hosuing problems.
New canning methods have shortened processing time for meats and most vegetables processed in a pressure canner. The product is more attractive, too. And, most important, the canned food will keep just as before.
Are you planting enough kernels of corn to get the best returns from your fertilizer? We have concluded that a lot of Iowa farmers aren't. This is our conclusion after 2 years of experiments. We were trying to find out how many stalks of corn you need to obtain the best response from fertilizer- especially when used in large amounts.
Commodity prices were rising sharply as March began. If this inflation is to continue much longer we are bound to feel a sharp jolt.
