dc.description.abstract
Auscultation is defined as the act of listening for sounds within the body. It is used chiefly to detect sounds connected with the lungs, heart, pleura, and areas of the abdomen. Until recent years, immediate auscultation, that is placing the ear directly on the part, was the common means of detecting sounds. Today a stethoscope is usually employed in routine auscultation examinations.
