dc.description.abstract At the most recent AEJMC conference, I moderated a panel and roundtable discussion sponsored by the International Communication Division on the topic of “Ontologies of Journalism in the Global South.” In addition to a lively debate about what constitutes the “Global South,” here are some of the questions that came up: To what extent do “Western” theories and models apply to other regions of the world? Whose voices have been included and whose voices are missing from knowledge production in our field? What measuring stick is being used to judge journalism studies in the Global South? And last but not least: How are scholars from those regions evaluated, recognized and rewarded at the local and international levels?
