Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the national impacts of the elimination of export markets due to hypothetical outbreaks of two foreign animal diseases. The study first establishes a baseline or status quo scenario (no diseases exist) and then analyzes the impact of an animal disease on pork (ASF) and on beef and pork (FMD). In both cases, we assume a worst-case scenario by eliminating all U.S. exports of the affected meat product for 10 years using an agricultural modeling system that generates 10-year projections.
