Abstract
Using models from other institutions’ student nurses’ associations, a nursing association at Iowa State University has been developed. Pending approval from Student Engagement, the organization will be authorized and will be named: Student Nursing Association (SNA). Through the process of focus groups assessing interest and anticipated participation, purpose and goals, bylaws, description of officers, and membership guidelines were created. Upon completion of this project, all requirements from ISU were met as the club was submitted and awaits approval. Once approved, the student nurses’ association will provide students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, participate in interprofessional collaboration, recognize the value of diversity, volunteer within community, reflect on their personal values and actions, and engage in a professional organization preparing students for engagement in future professional organizations. It will also allow for students to be members of a larger community of nursing students and professional nurses.
