Abstract
This project, “Educating on Agricultural Entrepreneurship through Children’s Literature,” was carried out by publishing a children’s book titled, “The Best Ice Cream That Ever Was Licked.” Once the primarily autobiographical plot was written, outside critique was received from professionals in the areas of English, elementary education, and writing. Feedback was given regarding illustrations, plot, syntax, and general appeal to the audience. The reading level of this book is first – second grade. This book is particularly entertaining when read aloud, as there is repetition that encourages children to read along. At the back of the book, discussion questions about entrepreneurship are included, which promote the use of creative thinking. After the manuscript was in place, illustrating the book occurred. The illustrations were created by transforming real-life photographs into artistic illustrations using a digital program called Photoscape. Prior to officially publishing the book, a prototype was read to over 200 elementary students. Feedback from the kids was taken into consideration. CreateSpace provides layout and distribution tools, so that is the self-publisher that was used. Marketing of this book has been carried out via social media. Ultimately, this book opens opportunities to learn about agriculture and entrepreneurship through a fun story.
