Abstract

Possibly no one disease syndrome has received so many pages of description in our literature as have the so-called colics of the horse, and surely no one medical term has been used so loosely as the appelation "colic," save possibly the indefinite term of "ileus" in human medicine. However, in this paper, only the most common disturbances will be considered. The more definitive diagnosis and treatment of parasitic conditions and those requiring major surgical interference will not be discussed.
