Abstract

Diction is a means to communicate uncertainty in science communication. Using a framework of terministic screens, the connotations of descriptions of uncertainty and risk can be evaluated. Furthermore, terministic screens can be used prescriptively to inform the writing of style guides. Journalistic style guides do not address science communications’ needs.
