dc.description.abstract |
As diagnostic and surveillance are vital to determine measures needed to control antimicrobial-drug resistance, new and rapid laboratory methods are necessary to facilitate this important effort. The characterization of antimicrobial resistance of bacteria is routinely done by using traditional culture and sensitivity testing methodologies and additional information can be obtained by PCR. The microarray technology allows the identification of multiple probes in a single reaction. This technology is simple, specific and high-throughput. We have developed an antimicrobial resistance bacterial genes (ABGs) microarray that will allow rapid antimicrobial resistance gene screening for all Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Using a 70-mer based oligonucleotide microarray for detection of multiple ABGs, a first prototype microarray in which ABGs of Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria was designed.
| |
