dc.description.abstract
This research looks at the new political faction that has risen to prominence during the 2016 presidential election known as the “alt-right”. The research attempts to answer various questions about the altright, including: where it came from, who leads it, what are the different factions in the alt-right, what are the goals of the movement, what made them coalesce around President Trump, how are they different from mainstream conservatism, and how are they different from the White Power movement. The research looks at various different sources, including websites that either are or cater to the alt-right, looking at different leaders of the alt-right and their answers to some of the aforementioned questions, and also looking at different individuals within the alt-right, whether on alt-right forums, twitter, or comment sections, and what they say. The alt-right is important to study due to their influence on the new presidential administration and what implications that will have on American politics.
