Covering Diversity: The Media’s Role in the Conversation

Abstract

<p>Diversity and inclusion is a huge topic on college campuses around the country—Iowa State is no exception. For good reason, the media has been under criticism for lack of coverage of underrepresented groups. This presentation will focus on how the Iowa State Daily has tried to address these issues, while also having a discussion the Daily’s shortcomings and how we can continue to improve. Where does the community fit in this conversation? How do we give a voice to all members of the community while still upholding journalistic principles?</p>
