Abstract
The objective of this research is to explore the feasibility of using ozone reaction with various organic soils found in worn garments as a metric to measure the degree of soiling. Our central hypothesis is based on the fact that ozone is highly reactive with some of the primary compounds found in the contaminants accumulating on worn garments after contact with the human body. The results obtained support this primary hypothesis, i.e., the presence on the fabric of the unsaturated compounds found in skin lipids accelerates ozone decay.
