dc.description.abstract <p>Mental Health illnesses affect millions of people across the world. It is increasingly prevalent on college campuses across the United States. The transition to college can be overwhelming especially when adding in all the stressors that come with the college experience. In my research I will survey and interview college students as well as mental health professionals at Iowa State University to see the scope of mental health issues on a college campus. I am also looking at the availability of resources for students with mental health issues and how effective and frequently those resources are sought out. The extensiveness of mental health issues on college campuses will be measured by studying the frequency of behaviors and feelings in college students that are typical indicators of mental health illnesses. In preliminary research I found how mental health is stigmatized and the effect that has on willingness to seek out help or treatment. Many campuses have ample resources available to students suffering from mental health issues but are rarely used due to the perceived public stigma by their peers. In my research, I will look at</p>
